The Compendium of Infection Control Technologies

We are pleased to welcome you to the MedicalSafetyBook.com and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to assist you in your infection control needs.

About The Sample Procurement Center

The primary purpose of this website is to make it easy for you to obtain samples of the medical devices for your device evaluation program and to provide the ability to purchase the Compendium.

Many of the medical device manufacturers will send a small number of samples for your evaluation at no charge. Others will respond to your request by sending a company representative to determine your product needs and will leave samples. Other devices will be available from the manufacturers at substantial discounts.

The product samples obtained through this website are purchased at a substantial discount from retail prices and are shipped via ground shipping at no charge to you.

This website will mirror the safety categories found in The Compendium of Infection Control Technologies. Not all of the devices that are listed in the Compendium are currently available as samples through us. If you request samples that are not currently available, you will be referred to the device's information in the Compendium and the manufacturer will be notified that you have an interest in evaluating their devices.

MedicalSafetyBook.com is simple.

As stated above, this site has two purposes:

  • Provide the Compendium:
    • To order The Compendium Click here.
    • If you purchase an e-book of The Compendium of Infection Control Technologies, you will be mailed your printed copy of The Compendium as soon as it is printed.
  • Receive Sample Requests
    • You can request samples of the devices that are listed in the Compendium so you can initiate your sample evaluation program.

Compendium Benefits

It's not just a book, it's a system!" Dr. Joel Rossen
Nearly 300 medical devices and infection control technologies are listed in the current edition of The Compendium of Infection Control Technologies. As part of your ongoing safety technology review, you will want to test many of the safety products listed in the Compendium. Some devices that are just becoming available will not yet be included in the book. The 'Compendium System' includes an interactive digital edition, a printed edition, a rapid-access website to procure product samples, and electronic updates by e-mail.

Product Evaluation Forms
OSHA regulations require facilities to evaluate new technologies that become available for the prevention of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. These evaluations must be documented. The Compendium provides evaluation forms, one for each device. Tailored to meet the specifications of each device category, the evaluation forms help facilities to plan and document product evaluations.

Electronic Updates - The Compendium keeps growing!
New safety products are released every month. Existing devices are improved as their technologies mature. The Compendium is a cooperative effort of over one hundred medical device and infection control product manufacturers who are always trying to make products safer. Our commitment is to use The Compendium System™ to keep you as current as possible in the fields of infection control, sharps safety and bloodborne pathogen exposure prevention products.

About The Compendium

In The Compendium on the left side of each page you will see an infection control device and on the right side, an evaluation form, tailored to that category of device.  With these tools, as you look through each device, you may decide:

          a. ) This device may increase safety at our facility, let's order samples, or
          b. ) This device does not meet our needs.

Then later, when the regulatory need arises, you can pull The Compendium off the shelf and use your notes as part of your evaluation documentation for your Exposure Control Plan.

As you browse the book, you will decide, "We need some samples". Whether ordering 15, 60 or more of these devices, instead of taking weeks to contact each manufacturer individually, you log-on to MedicalSafetyBook.com and you will have all of your sample requests completed in just a few minutes.

We are already in contact with all of these manufacturers. The Sample Procurement Center is growing, and soon you will be able to save your valuable time by letting us process your sample requests.  You tell us what you want and we immediately send your processing information to the correct contact at the manufacturer or distributor.

If that is not enough, once you've taken the time to bring your exposure control plan up-to-date, we'd like to help you stay up-to-date. Every time a new device enters our database, you will be notified instantly. Also, as more devices enter the database, Biomedical Safety Publishing will be assembling and providing supplements to The Compendium, formatted in the same way as the book; the device on one side, the evaluation form on the other.

This system can save your facility time and money, and more importantly, the devices you implement will save lives.
